There are many methods to measure a saddle. The basic steps are the identical for both types. Measure from your lower leg to the saddle and measure the distance between your knees and the seat. You might need to measure slightly different depending on your body type. Before you buy a saddle, make sure your measurements are correct.

Begin by figuring out the horse's shoulder width. A measuring tool about two feet in diameter is enough for a small horse. You can measure the horse's withers using a string or an eight-inch wire. Mark the center of the measurement using a pencil. Then, position eight inches of measuring wire to each side, mold it around the horse's withers, and press it down until the line is in contact with the horse's skin.

A general English saddle will have a cantle or pommel approximately the same width. The cantle may be higher than the pommel. It should fit the horse's back evenly. A western saddle is a little different. It should sit two to three fingers wide at the gullet, and if it's too narrow, you should try a different type of saddle. Although English saddles are more straightforward to fit, it is important to measure all types of saddles.

The saddle's gullet is an important part. Badly-measured saddle gullets can cause the saddle's slippage, roll, and even hurt the horse. These outcomes are undesirable, especially on busy roads. Before purchasing a saddle, measure the horse's gullet. A medium-sized horse will usually need a medium-sized saddle.

First, measure your child's thighs. The thigh should measure between ten to eleven inches. The length of your upper leg should be between eleven inches and twelve inches. Once you have determined the thigh measurement of your child, you can measure their height and then use that information to purchase a saddle. The seat width should be approximately one-half to two inches longer than their thigh.

The next step is to measure the width of the saddle. Measure it across the entire font and level with the conchos. This is important, as the width of your saddle bars will tell you how wide it is. Half-quarter, full Qtr and full Qtr bar widths are 6.5 to 7 inches while draft saddle bars are 8 to 10 inches. The old saddle on right is a quarter into a draft-sized tree. Besides the waist size, other measurements of the saddle are important to ensure a proper fit. When buying a saddle for your child, be of their age. If the child is just starting out, purchase a bigger size saddle for a future use. If your child is growing, buy a saddle that will grow with them. You can adjust the size of the saddle to fit your child's growing needs.
